We take on a small number of projects each year — which means every one gets our full attention, from design, early preconstruction planning through to the final walkthrough and warranty phase. The projects below represent the range of what we build: carefully executed custom homes, whole-home renovations, small renovations and additions across Northumberland County and the surrounding region. Each one started with a conversation, an authentic connection, and a commitment to meeting every expectation through a collaborative partnership.

What began as a smaller project aimed at updating a few rooms evolved into a much broader renovation project involving most of this semi-detached Toronto home. The clients wanted a clean, simple aesthetic that would maximize their use of the limited space. By adding new expansive sliding doors along the rear wall of the main floor, the house was opened up to their lush back garden with mature trees, bringing in light and a connection to the home’s natural surroundings.
When previous clients reached out asking if we could take on a whole-home renovation to make more space for their young family, we were thrilled to take it on. We had previously redone their basement, so we knew the connection and trust was already there.
The architect was only involved in the permit stage, and the drawings were somewhat overdesigned for our client’s vision and budget. We scaled it back a little, keeping the key aspects that were most important to our clients, without blowing their budget and ensuring that the house would still fit in the urban, mixed demographic family neighbourhood where it stood.
In addition to completely gutting the existing detached, 1920s-era house, we also built a rear two-storey addition supported on helical piles to give the family more room to grow. The design throughout was clean, simple and modern, with new windows and a large set of sliders to open things up and bring in more light. Vaulted ceilings and a gorgeous en suite added drama and class to the primary bedroom, and the large kitchen was pulled together with custom millwork and stylish fixture selections.
Featured in Dwell magazine, this 1950s Toronto home was fully renovated for a young family in 2017. What first began as a basement project following a major flood soon became a more comprehensive full-scale renovation. Modern details and a more functional flow brought the home into alignment with the clients’ values and lifestyle. A clean backdrop, combined with warm wooden details, and raw, unfinished steel make for a subtle, yet distinctive space that is relaxed and comfortable.
An artist’s sanctuary adapted for creativity and entertainment, the house on Richardson is surrounded by a lush, natural, landscape less than two hours from Toronto.
Built for a retired artist couple to age-in-place, the design effortlessly connects the surrounding landscape to the living areas. The main living space is served from a single level for ease of use and design that celebrates the outdoors with a great room wrapped in floor-to-ceiling glass. The primary suite is cantilevered and feels like it’s floating above the hillside. The lower level is a partial basement walk-out that includes an artist’s studio and guest quarters. The house is easily adapted for entertaining — both indoors and out — and provides ample gallery surfaces to display artwork. A screened-in porch also provides privacy and a soft enclosure for the outdoor spa area.
A masterclass in intention and craftsmanship, the house is clad in blackened wood, limestone, and glass; rising from the landscape like a sculpture: bold, refined and timeless. The interior is finished to an equally elevated standard with custom oak and walnut millwork by Nick Day Designs, a dramatic Blue Roma granite kitchen island, radiant hydronic heating, and multiple walkouts to the forest and hillside.
This renovation project involved updating the existing house throughout, and also adding a cantilevered addition to the structure. With new windows throughout and a more open design than what was there previously, our clients wound up with a fabulous and functional home that maximizes light and flow. The beautiful millwork in the kitchen, coupled with a stylish upholstered banquette make for the perfect entertainment space for a family that loves to host.
This three-storey, semi-detached Victorian heritage home in Yorkville started out as a simple kitchen project, but soon turned into a much broader, more dramatic, and very interesting whole-home renovation to the first and second floors.
Our clients were retired, with grandkids visiting regularly. They wanted to retain the character of the home’s Victorian features, while modernizing and enhancing the home’s elegance in a way that honoured both.
A steel moment frame structure was added to support and stabilize the building, from the basement through to the second floor, with steel frames for new window openings. These allowed us to dramatically open up the interior and build the striking steel single stringer staircase with cantilevered treads and landings. Triple-glazed European-style windows were added, along with high-end millwork in the new kitchen and elsewhere. The floor system was levelled, new doors and trim were added, and we built in a new electrical layout to allow for more modern functionality.
This family home in Leaside had been renovated in the 1990s and was in need of an update. Our clients wanted a more open, airy space to enjoy with their teenaged kids and guests. We did a full gut of the interior, and added a rear addition, as well. Unique elements, such as an elegant glass stair guard with steel handrail that extends from the basement up to the second floor, and a custom-made light fixture over the kitchen island were added, along with new windows and flooring throughout, and striking new bathrooms. The main floor was opened up into a large, completely open space, with a bright, modern kitchen right in the centre, perfect for entertaining.
This project was much more than a whole-home renovation. Our clients wanted a complete structural overhaul, including gutting the house entirely, underpinning the foundation, reframing the interior structure, and all new floor systems. The structural sequencing involved was challenging and fun for our in-house crew and trusted subtrades. The collaborative energy between the clients, their designer and our team made for an overwhelmingly positive experience all around and an end result to match. The warm, yet stylish finish selections, including gorgeous custom millwork in the living room, kitchen and primary bedroom, as well as a wood-burning fireplace create an environment that is at once modern and cozy.

Michael is very skilled as a general contractor and has an honest, responsible character. Going through a renovation always has its stressful or overwhelming moments. You want to be in those moments with someone you trust is doing their best, and whose best assures a standard of excellence. This is Michael and his team. Throughout the building of our home, he and his team were wonderful to us as well as our neighbours. They took great care in the price quotations to ensure we scale the project to something we can afford. They matched their quote during post-Covid times, when prices were fluctuating and the market was difficult to predict. They worked with quality materials and did a great job aesthetically as well as functionally in our home. I cannot recommend this team enough. All the best in your renovation.Posted on Google Chris CurryTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Mike and the entire de Blois Built (“DBB”) Team were our contractor for an extensive full house renovation in Toronto that was completed in July 2024. Like any large and complex construction project it is all about the “Team”. DBB was nothing short of excellent throughout the years leading up to construction start, all the way until completion and thereafter. Their collaborative approach with Architects, Designers, Subtrades, etc., is what truly differentiates them from the crowd as they repeatedly came to the table with effective solutions to any issue that may have arisen. More importantly though, Mike and his team would proactively suggest design or cost-effective alternatives for consideration throughout the life of the project that in hindsight, now living in our house for a year, was true game changer on how small suggestions has produced big benefits and flow for our family’s needs. I would be more than happy to recommend Mike & DBB services to anyone considering a major (or minor) renovation or new build. Regards. Hibou HousePosted on Google Chris WalcottTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We share this experience from a different perspective than a client, and we were and are very pleased working with de Blois. We are a subcontractor for plumbing mechanical AC irrigation installs and service. We have been in business for over 60 years and worked with many different contractors, those that truly care for their product and provide a great work culture are few and far between. De Blois definitely joins this club of selective contractors.Posted on Google Christine McNicolTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We couldn't be more pleased with our experience working with Mike and his team. First in 2015 to underpin and renovate our basement. Then in 2021 for a complete renovation and extension on the rest of our home. On both projects, from start to finish, the communication was absolutely incredible, keeping us informed every step of the way. The workmanship was excellent, showcasing the skill and dedication they put into every detail. When it came to budgeting and costs, everything was transparent, with no surprises—just honest, clear information. Mike himself is a standout guy—his attention to detail, kindness, and work ethic are unmatched. He listened to our needs, was attentive to every aspect of the project, and made sure everything was completed on time.
